FAQ
What formulators ask us most about our microfluidic fragrance microcapsules.
Microencapsulation wraps oil-based fragrance ingredients inside micron-sized spheres with a protective shell. The shell holds the scent in your product and releases it later, for example when the fabric is rubbed or warmed.
We use microfluidic chips. They make each capsule one by one inside a precision-engineered chip, so every capsule is nearly the same size. Most capsules on the market are made by bulk emulsion, which is fast but gives uneven sizes.
Capsules of nearly the same size release fragrance evenly, without weak or overpowering bursts. They also spread more evenly through fabrics and home-care products.
Friction or heat. Micron-sized capsules have a large surface area, so they release scent quickly and efficiently once triggered.
Yes. OTTOCAPS® Ruby is engineered for cationic softener bases. It survives wash and dry cycles and releases scent on friction. Each batch is tested for thermal and phase-separation stability.
Yes. The shell breaks down into harmless substances such as CO₂, water and biomass in soil or water. This prevents microplastics from building up after washing and wastewater release.
ECHA's restriction on microplastics gives different sectors different transition periods: rinse-off cosmetics until 2027, detergents and fertilisers until 2028, plant protection products until 2031, and make-up and nail products until 2035. From 2031 these products must also carry the label “This product contains microplastics”. Biodegradable capsules help you prepare for this.
Each batch is checked with optical and electron microscopy (SEM), size distribution analysis and thermogravimetric analysis.
Yes. We send a free 100 mL sample of OTTOCAPS® for your bench tests, with recommended dosing for your application.
